Job Title: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU)
Job Summary:
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU) is responsible for providing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgery or procedures. They monitor patients closely, assessing their vital signs, pain levels, and overall condition as they transition from the operating room to the recovery area. PACU nurses play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of patients during this critical period.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia, assessing their condition and vital signs
- Manage post-operative pain and administer medication as needed
- Communicate effectively with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals to ensure proper patient care
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families regarding post-operative care
- Ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients during their recovery
- Document patient progress and interventions in medical records
Qualifications and Skills:
- Valid RN license
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Prior experience in PACU or critical care setting preferred
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-stress environment
