Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Psychiatric Emergency Department plays a crucial role in providing specialized care to patients with mental health concerns. They assess, diagnose, and treat patients in crisis, ensuring they receive appropriate care and support in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Conduct thorough assessments of patients in crisis and develop individualized care plans.
2. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers.
3. Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviors.
4. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
5. Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions and treatment options.
6. Monitor and document patient progress and response to treatment.
7. Advocate for patients' needs and ensure they receive quality care.
8. Respond to emergency situations and provide life-saving interventions as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Active RN license in the state of practice.
2. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
3. Certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing is a plus.
4. Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric nursing.
5. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
