Job Title: Lab Histo Tech - Histotechnologist
Job Summary:
The Lab Histo Tech - Histotechnologist is responsible for preparing tissue samples for pathological examination in a laboratory setting. They perform a variety of techniques including embedding, cutting, staining, and mounting tissue slides for microscopic analysis by pathologists.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Receive and process tissue specimens according to established protocols.
2. Embed tissue samples in paraffin wax blocks for sectioning.
3. Cut thin sections of tissue using a microtome.
4. Perform special stains and immunohistochemical tests as required.
5. Mount and cover tissue slides for examination under a microscope.
6. Maintain accurate records of all specimens processed.
7. Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.
8. Adhere to safety and quality control procedures.
9. Assist pathologists with slide reviews and specimen tracking.
10. Keep up-to-date with new techniques and advances in histology.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or related field.
2. Certification as a Histotechnologist (HT) or Histotechnician (HTL) preferred.
3. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a histology laboratory.
4. Knowledge of histological techniques and equipment.
5. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
6. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
7. Proficient in computer skills and laboratory information systems.
